Candie Gardens sit at the top of St. Peter Port offering panoramic views of other islands in the Bailliwick: Jethou, Sark and Herm.
The gardens are now public but were part of a private estate in Victorian times. A beautifully restored glass greenhouse, probably the oldest in the British Isles, hosts a rare collection of Guernsey Lilies. Manicured and particularly pleasant in the spring, Candie Gardens offer a peaceful environment to enjoy at any time of day.
Located within the garden grounds are Guernsey Museum which showcases the island's history, The Priaulx Library where Guernsey's archives are kept and, famously, a statue of Queen Victoria as well as one of Victor Hugo who lived in St. Peter Port for fifteen years.
A coffee shop offering snacks and light meals is located in the museum.
Please beware that to reach the gardens on foot from the town centre involves a reasonably steep walk. Alternatively several bus routes will take you there and there is ample parking available.
