Market Square

About Guernsey Market Square

Market Square was built in the 1770s in the then rectory garden of the Town Church. In 1818, the French Halles and surrounding area was expanded to what you see today.

Market Buildings

Having undergone full renovation during the last 10 years, the Market Buildings offers a variety of shopping experiences & dining.

Home to HMV, New Look, Holland & Barrett, SportsDirect, Feel Unique, the Co-Op supermarket, a drop in gym and a local Barbers Shop, the Market Buildings also provides the perfect Victorian back drop for whiling away the hours at café restaurants with internal and alfresco tables overlooking Market Square.

Many events are hosted with the pedestrianised area of Market Square. Regular musical ensembles throughout the summer months, photographic displays, the Guernsey Literary Festival as well as the clowns, Punch & Judy and opera singers of the annual Town Carnival, to name but a few, take place here. Market Square is the location for the island’s Fresh Friday market which sees local traders set-up shop selling fresh produce & street food. During the winter months Fresh Friday can be found within the Inner Street of Market Buildings. This really is an area of St Peter Port not to be missed!

What's On

From seasonal markets offering local fare to nautical themed stalls during the summer months, the Market Square plays host to dozens of fun and foodie events during the year.
